Creating space for creativity.

This is a family of makers. Whether it’s collage art, 3D design, or jars of colorful paint water, their home is filled with creative expression, curiosity, and connection. And while their own hobbies may have taken a back seat, they’ve found joy in discovering art all over again—this time, through their kids.

Q. Who's in your family?

Waldo (37), Christiana (36), Leo (4), and Maya (19 months)

Q. What are your hobbies?

Waldo: I’m an artist at heart—I enjoy making things, whether it’s code, 3D art, or video games.
Christiana: I make collage art from vintage magazines and books.
Leo: Playing drums and listening to music!
Maya: Painting and singing “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.”

Q. Did becoming a parent change your identity?

Both: We both experienced a huge shift in identity! Everything changed, including our daily routine, our priorities and how we experienced the world. That meant finding ways to continue creating and engaging with art.

Q. How has parenting shifted your relationship to your hobbies?

Both: We have a 4 year old and a toddler, so we don’t have much free time to pursue our hobbies on our own. We try to stay connected to our interests by finding opportunities to do them together as a family.

Lalo

Q. Do your little ones share your interests?

Both: Children are innately creative, so it’s easy to engage them with art projects. We’ll always offer some kind of art project when we’re playing together. Our kids love to create and experiment.

Q. What advice would you give to new parents?

Waldo: Take naps, go to bed early, and be nice to yourself.

Christiana: We always hear from other parents with older kids “There’s light at the end of the tunnel! You’ll have more time when the kids are older!” We aren’t there yet, but we know that one day, we’ll have more space and energy to pursue our passions independently.

Q. What are your favorite Lalo products?

Both: We love the Lalo Play Table + Chair Set, it’s our favorite place to do art projects or build with blocks and Legos. The Lalo giant coloring sheets because when we’re done coloring them in, we stick them on our walls. And we keep all our art supplies (for both kids and grown ups) in Lalo caddies.
